What do you mean when you suggest a balance between self-agency & surrender?
You wrote about a path created for you... Doesn't that suggest somekind of determinism? Something like finding your prescripted life & living it unsullied?
Thank you for reading and for this question which made me think some more! What I mean by finding a balance between self-agency and surrender is that in every circumstance there’s usually something that’s out of our control. And as we strive to show up as our best selves and go after what we want, I think it’s equally important to practice letting go of overly specific outcomes. The alternative would be clinging to specific dreams or plans for my life and refusing to consider anything else because I’m convinced that one outcome is the best for me. But after going down that path, I’ve realized that because my vision is limited, what I think is the best outcome may not always the case—that’s the surrender.
I have free will even if many things are outside of my control. So if there is indeed a specific path for me to take, I can choose how I experience that journey—less fraught because surrender, and more like an unfolding journey (perhaps with stops along the way). So rather than over-engineering my life, I’m choosing to allow a higher power to guide me into something.
Ooh. Ok.
This sounds better. 😊
Thanks.
